Anna Bay Beach

The dunes behind Birubi Beach at Anna Bay constitute the largest coastal sand mass in NSW and are a popular spot for activities such as quad-biking, sand-boarding, 4WD touring and camel rides. Beach fishing and whale-watching are added attractions and just back from the beach is Birubi Beach Holiday Park, with cabins, camping/caravan sites and barbecue amenities. Five minutes’ stroll away is Anna Bay village, which has a supermarket, butcher, fruit and vegetable store, bottle shop and gas station. There are takeaway eateries too and a popular bistro at Anna Bay Tavern. The gourmet cafe located right on the beach suits board-riders who’d rather not stray too far from a view of the waves.

Bennetts Beach

Bennetts Beach in Hawks Nest is the beginning of a long stretch of beach, which enters the Myall Lakes National Park and extends north to the fishing village of Seal Rocks through a virtual wildlife corridor. South Bennetts Beach leads you to the Yacaaba Headland walk, your reward being fantastic views of the mouth of the Myall River across Port Stephens and north to Myall Lakes National Park. Patrolled during school holidays and weekends over the summer, this beach is popular with those who enjoy 4W driving and is situated close to parks, camping and all facilities.

Port Stephens features more than 30km of white sandy beaches. Its bay is home to about 150 bottlenose dolphins. Between May and June, humpback whales cruise past the town on their northern migration, returning south between September and November. The area has a host of accommodation and dining options

Toboggan Hill Park

Toboggan Hill Park is set amongst natural bush, just off Salamander Way at Nelson Bay. Tobogganing is suitable for all the family as each toboggan is equipped with brakes so you control the speed of descent, slow to thrilling! Children under eight must ride with an adult. Visitors can also enjoy mini golf, indoor rock climbing, krazy kars, tractor train rides plus many more fun indoor activities.

Fingal Bay Beach

A near-perfect C-curve of sand that faces southeast, Fingal Bay Beach has its own island connected by a sand-spit and is well protected from all but a hefty southeast wind. The aptly-named “Kiddies Corner” at the south end is completely sheltered and it draws mums and dads with nippers in tow. The spit at the north end which links Fingal Island to the mainland gets decent waves when the sand builds up. The island’s key feature is an imposing lighthouse and there are some stylish cafes a short walk from the water’s edge. Accommodation nearby ranges from backpackers and camping/caravan sites to the five-star Shoal Bay Resort which has luxury villas, apartments and a spa treatment centre.

Forster Town Beach

Forster Town Beach has been a favourite beach for families close to shops, cafes and restaurants. It is located in the town centre with an ocean baths area for those who enjoy the calmer sea waters and grassed picnic areas. The beach is also patrolled during school holidays and weekends in the summer, proving to be a very popular beach. The beach is also the access point for the Bicentennial walk, take a leisurely stroll along the waters edge past pebbly beach, The Tanks (a site of historical significance), to the well known Bennetts Head Lookout, where terrific views of the ocean beaches and township across the beautiful Wallis Lake.

One Mile Beach

The stretch of beach known as One Mile is located in the residential area of Forster and is extremely popular with surfers and families. Patrolled during the holidays and on weekends the beach is bordered by a large park with BBQ, picnic facilities and playground equipment. The northern end is the access to Bennett’s Head lookout where 360 degree views of the area can be enjoyed. It also boasts Giant Sandhill ,popular for sand sliding and boarding.
