The unofficial capital of Outback NSW, Broken Hill is known for its thriving arts community, mining heritage and access to many outback adventures.

The City of Broken Hill is the largest regional centre in the western half of New South Wales. It lies in the centre of the sparsely settled New South Wales Outback, close to the South Australian border and midway between the Queensland and Victorian borders.

Broken Hill is home to the world's largest silver, lead and zinc mine run by Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited (BHP), established in 1885. These days, Broken Hill offers visitors mining tours and museums as well as many other experiences. About 10 km from Broken Hill, in the middle of the Living Desert Reserve, is Sundown Hill, the site of the Living Desert Sculptures.
